Library Policies
Who Works in the Library?
Our school library is staffed by Mrs. Shakira Player and Ms. Rochelle Eaddy. Mrs. Player is the certified teacher librarian. She teaches the library "special" to all classes Y5-5th, and manages the physical library collection. Mrs. Player is full-time in the library. Ms. Eaddy is the library clerk. She processes new books and adds them to our library catalog. Ms. Eaddy is in the library at Eberwhite on Monday afternoons this year.
Borrowing Books
During the next few weeks, your student may begin bringing home books they borrowed from the school library. Your student will continue to have the opportunity to borrow new books on a weekly basis during their scheduled library time.
Borrowing privileges for each grade level are:
*Y5 & K- 1 book
*1st & 2nd- up to 2 books
*3rd, 4th & 5th- up to 3 books
Books are always due back on your student’s scheduled library day, unless your student requests to renew their book(s) during library class. Your student may only check out new books if their previous books have been returned.
Please support your student by:
1. Finding a safe place to keep library books to avoid damage or loss.
2. Reminding your student to have clean hands when reading their library books and to turn the pages carefully.
3. Reminding your student to keep their library books away from pets or younger siblings to avoid damage or loss.
4. Returning the books every week (unless requesting renewal) on their library day at school.
Library Communication
If you need to contact the library directly, please send an email to Mrs. Player at players@aaps.k12.mi.us. Please leave your name, your student's name, and your student's teacher's name in your email. You will receive a response to your email within 24 hours. If you'd like to explore our library's website, you may go to https://eberwhite.a2schools.org/ and click ‘Library’ in the menu of options.
Library Book Overdue Notices
Overdue notices will be emailed to families every second and fourth Friday of each month for students who have overdue books. Please help your student practice responsibility by making it a routine to return their library books on their weekly library day.
Book Care
One of the skills we emphasize and practice in library class is respect for our resources. If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, we kindly ask you to replace it. You may replace the lost or damaged book by purchasing another hardcover copy from a local or online bookstore. If replacing the book is a financial hardship, please email Mrs. Player at players@aaps.k12.mi.us.
Library/Media Class
Each library class is taught by Eberwhite's certified teacher librarian, Mrs. Player. In addition to engaging read alouds, it includes instruction in library usage skills, basic educational technology skills, online safety, digital citizenship, keyboarding basics, and elementary research skills. Each classroom visits the library during their "specials" time, at least once per week.
